European Commission Vows to Continue Push for Full Ban on Russian Energy Imports

The European Commission will continue to pursue a complete ban on Russian energy carriers in the EU market, despite ongoing challenges related to electricity generation and gas procurement, according to a statement from Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen. Itkonen noted that purchases of Russian oil are already prohibited under existing EU sanctions, with only Hungary and Slovakia currently granted exceptions. The Commission, she said, is working closely with these countries to address the remaining issues.
